New Album "Dirt Bathed and Quilted" To Be Released in Late Spring/Early Summer 2009

The record is mixed, mastered, and off to the presses. We'll be working on getting a CD release show in Seattle in the May/June/July timeframe. We might have a Mississippi Painful CD to release at the same show if we play our cards right.

Mississippi Painful Opens for The Duchess and The Duke

It's been a few months since there was much news for OCF...we took some time off for bickering and mixing the album and while it's taken us a little longer than hoped it will be well worth the wait.

In other news, on March 27th a reunion for Mississippi Painful will occur at the Holy Mountain, opening for soon to be famous Seattle band "The Duchess and The Duke". Mississippi Painful is Open Choir Fire's "alter-ego" for lack of a better name. It's the same 3 guys playing acoustic folk/country/singer songwriter stuff with members from several other bands. There will be banjo, mandolin, geetars, jaw harps, drummin, bassin, singing, dancing, hootin, hollerin, drinking, and cajolin.

New Record Recorded In Record Time

Record is recorded, 11 songs tracked in 2 days including geetar overdubs, backing vocals, trumpets, pedal steel, and drum machines.  We're hoping our friend Andy will mix it for free out of the goodness of his heart so we can get it out before the end of the year.

Open Choir Fire begins recording sessions on new full length Labor Day Weekend

It seems the trade winds have shifted in favor of our deepest capitalistic desires, we've got some actual actual plans for a new full length. We'll demo some on 7/26 hopefully it won't be quite the disastrous booze fest the last "demo" session ended up being with over 25 minutes of only dogs barking and Brian yelling at the cable for amateur athletes to "Do it!" and "Do it again!"

We've got a basic list of songs that's flowing over the edges of our virtual bucket so we'll have to make some of our best misinformed choices of which one of these doesn't belong, etc. And we've tapped our old friend Andy of the infamous spin agency Big Place Country to engineer and mix the damn thing. It's somewhere's nears around Canadia. Over Labor Day weekend. That only makes good sense...here...

Hopefully we'll geter done and into your hands Oct/Nov/Dec/when Chris gets around to doing up some artwork. Questions?

Open Choir Fire plays this year's Noise for the Needy Festival on June 12th

We are happy to announce we will be supporting Noise for the Needy this year, an extremely successful non-profit festival which exists solely for the purpose of rocking Seattle for a week and then giving the money to another non-profit. Past headliners have included Okkervil River, The Black Eyed Peas, and the Offspring. For information on this year's beneficiary "Urban Rest Stop" please go here http://www.urbanreststop.org. For information on the 2008 Noise for the Needy lineup visit their website here www.noisefortheneedy.org. Check the shows page for details on the Open Choir Fire NFTN show.

We are making a full length album THIS year!

The official decision has been made: We are officially recording an official full-length album, songs and all. The tentative schedule is to continue writing new material until Brian gets married next May, and then begin recording sometime near the end of June. The album will be released sometime in the fall, hopefully in the Sept/Oct timeframe.

We don't know yet where we are going to record and we have absolutely no idea how we're going to pay for it. If anyone wants to donate money to help us with this endeavor we sure would appreciate it.

We won Round 3 of the CMJ Zig Zag Live Competition!

Hmmm.....so what does this mean exactly? Well, we get a bunch of ads in the CMJ monthly magazine, a song of ours available for download on the CMJ website for a week, and one of our songs distributed along with the CMJ Monthly new music compilation.

And most importantly of all: We have a 1 in 6 chance of being invited to play the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC next October (i.e. we won round 3 of 6). See the news story here

We are hopeful.....

OCF plays Missoula, MT/Great press from the Independent

OCF plays the Badlander on Saturday November 17th with RTX (ex-Royal Trux) and personal hero Southerly. This is our first Missoula, MT show and we've got a very flattering review of our 2006 EP in the Independent. Check the press page on the OCF website or myspace, or go here if you want to read it.

2007 Dare to Dream to Raise Awareness Tour is over!

Well the Honda Civic made it almost 2000 miles carrying 3 dudes, camping equipment, and hauling a 700lb U-Haul trailer with expired B.C. plates and all of our gear. We lost less money than was in our band bank account, so we consider the tour a success. Special thanks to everyone who offered us up a place to stay and fed us for free. A band tour is seriously a community effort.

Terry kept an extensive and hilarious blog of all our adventures you can view on our myspace page at www.myspace.com/openchoirfire.

OCF selected as The Stranger Band of the Week

Well we were featured in this week's Stranger Lineout music blog as the BAND OF THE WEEK. Once again our douchebag drummer makes an ass out of himself and his entire family.

We are currently and reluctantly accepting applications for a Press Agent. Must be willing to work very few hours, for free, love working in a relaxed, artistic atmosphere, and must love the smell of mildew and laundry detergent.
